Hello! I'm Joanna

I'm a Psychology student at the University of West Florida with a Marketing Applications minor. I am set to graduate in December 2019 and upon completion of my degree will also have obtained an HR certificate and a Digital Marketing certificate. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in Human Resources to expand my current knowledge and skills in the field. I also have plans to continue my education with a Master's program in Industrial Organizational Psychology.

APA Guidelines for Undergraduates

EXPERTISE

Discipline Knowledge & Skills

Having proficient knowledge of the content and ability to apply the content are both important aspects of the psychology discipline. This outcome was best demonstrated in the course Personnel Selection and Appraisal where we spent the first part of the semester learning the content, such as components of a job analysis, conducting interviews, identifying SMEs, and developing KSAOs and task statements. The second part of the semester, we applied these concepts to consulting project for a local car dealership.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is practiced throughout all psychology courses. This skill was enhanced during my time as a research team member in a Child Development Lab. Children are unpredictable, and we had to remain neutral in our reactions in order to maintain experiemental control while still making it a fun experience for the kids. This required much attention to detail and adaptability to our environment without interfering with the results.

Communication Skills

Communication skills are built upon with each course orally and written. Personnel Selection and Appraisal illustrated this skill by strengthening our presentation skills to the client of our consulting project and by writing and submitting a business proposal and technical report in a professional tone without using jargon.

Integrity & Values

Integrity and values is established in all psychology curriculum. This is demonstrated rigorously when conducting research. In the Child Development lab, we had to protect and maintain confidentiality and thoroughly explain informed consent to the participants. We were also trained in scholarly writing and applying proper APA citations.

Project & Professional Development

Project and Professional Development has been developed with each semester in psychology. These skills have been expanded upon in both the Child Development lab and Personnel Selection and Appraisal. In the Child development lab, we had to present ourselves in a professional manner to the parents of the participants to establish credibility to the study and university. In Personnel Selection and Appraisal, we refined our project management skills to allocate roles and meet deadlines.
